Attendance at this event will develop the skills and knowledge needed for safe and effective pain assessment and management by ensuring attendees can:

Discuss the mechanisms of pain and the impact on the individual, their supporters and society.

Identify the principles of safer prescribing and relate this to the single competency framework for prescribing.

Explore the complexity and unique challenges when prescribing in people with substance use disorder.

Discuss the principals and evidence base when prescribing for acute and procedural pain.

Identify the medicolegal and ethical issues when prescribing in pain management including patient group directions.

Discuss the role of the designated prescribing practitioner as a role model and mentor to current and aspiring prescribers.
